Out of the mouths of babes

I was praying for our marriage and those around us while supervising the nigh nigh routine around here. It’s so easy to get really distant from your spouse when you never spend time alone or have an opportunity to speak to one another in complete sentences. Kind of like being prisoners, I guess. Except that the warden is a 16-month-old wielding her empty sippy cup like a billy club. So I was praying for us and those around me when Mary Claire stops eating her waffle and says:

Mommy, slow down so you have time to think about Daddy. All you do is think about me and Elizabeth and Daddy doesn’t have anyone to think about him.

I was so stunned by her words that I immediately walked over to a notebook and wrote them down verbatim. Because surely God did not give me direction that quickly through my four-year-old, did He?
