If Anyone Had Ever Told Me….

If anyone had ever told me that my husband would one day cancel plans so I could sleep in until 9 a.m. and I considered it one of the best gifts ever received, I would never have believed it.

If someone had ever told me that I would be starving, need to desperately use the bathroom, and had a severe back spasm but still cut up my kid’s pasta before taking care of myself, I would shake my head at the thought of being a parent.

If anyone had told me that I would be up at night 11 times with our second born when she WAS TWO YEARS OLD and NOT SICK, I wouldn’t believe it.

If anyone had told me that I would still be able to function the following day, pregnant no less, I would think it impossible.

If anyone had told me that I’d be more nervous about Mary Claire’s role as flower girl this weekend than I was for my role as a bride, I would find the idea crazy.

If anyone had told me that I would lay out seven outfits for my children to wear this weekend (they have lots of different events) before I even thought about my own clothing, I wouldn’t think they were speaking about me.

I am still such a selfish person, but for me there is nothing like parenthood that makes you consistenly lay your life down for another.  And that’s a good thing.

Isn’t it amazing how things you use to think of as no big deal, like getting to sleep in, are now such a big deal. I now have trouble listening to people complain about things they don’t like, such as, working 48 hours a week and being tired. Being a parent isn’t for wimps!! Thank the Lord for giving us the strength to accomplish daily what needs to be done and for keeping our mouths shut when others complain!
