The Wedding

2010 October 11
by Pamela

Our nephew Alex and his beautiful bride Rachel married this weekend.   Mary Claire was over-the-moon excited to be the flower girl.

Isn’t she the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?  Yes, I think so too.

When it was time for her to walk down the aisle, she got this panic-stricken look on her face, presumably because everyone’s eyes were on her.  Then she spotted her Daddy and smiled her shy sweet smile.  She walked down the aisle with her chin tucked into her chest the whole way.

And not to be outdone, she also threw petals on the way out of the ceremony and dumped the rest of the contents dramatically when she was close to the door.

This picture cracks me up because it typifies Mary Claire’s feelings for Rachel so well.  She practically stalked her the entire day and night.  Mary Claire didn’t understand why Rachel wanted to ride in the “limbo” instead of our minivan and why she would want to go home with Alex instead of us.   Rachel and Alex, along with the whole wedding party, were so gracious to her.

Jane was kind enough to snap this photo of us, the only one we have of all three of us together.

By the time of the reception, Mary Claire had been on-the-go for 8 hours and was starting to wane a bit.  She would lay on my lap and ask to go home, but then perk up and run around again.  She danced a lot with Daddy and her cousins.  She even opted for an ensemble change at the end of the night:

She is intently learning a dance from her awesome cousins here.

According to Mary Claire, the best parts of the day were:  dancing with Rachel at the party, throwing the petals, bungee jumping at the mall (I went up to a perfect stranger and asked him to take a photo of her and email it to me.  I’m SO hoping he does because how often do you see a flower girl with a bungee cord?), eating broccoli soup at Olgas, and making her own hot cocoa at the coffee bar.

We loved being a part of your special day, Alex and Rachel.

Shameless Plug as a preface: I will be writting more from Chicago in Mid November.

    Quick Comments, An Ode

First things First: Awaiting with baited breath…. was it the bride? was it Mary Claire? was it Elizabeth Ann? or Peter hoping to see E-A’s photo at the wedding too.

Second things Second: An Inquiry, “Do Baptists Dance?”. What else do they do standing up… refrain… pray.

Last things Last: A word: Mrs. Wright, now Little M-C knows who needs to walk her down the isle. Bob, love you brother. p

Awwww!!! What a cutie!!! I’m so glad she was able to do her job as flower girl! You hear so many stories about the little ones who never quite make it down the aisle.
    YAY MC!!! You go girl!!!

I was a flower girl when I was MC’s age in my aunt and uncle’s wedding. I, unlike MC, did NOT make it down the aisle. Apparently, I was not as brave as she was. She looks darling…love the shy, tucked chin look. :)

Love the shot of you three. She looked like she did great. Abby also followed a bride around the whole night at a wedding we attended this summer. Too funny.
