Scavenger Hunt

For Valentine’s Day and Easter, I try to arrange a little scavenger hunt for the girls to find their baskets.  I got the idea from watching Jon + Kate plus 8, back before the nannies, million dollar home, and all the hoopla.  Remember when they were kind of normal?

Anyway, I remember watching her do a scavenger hunt for her kids while I was holding a newborn Elizabeth in my arms.  I was feeling like a cruddy mom at the time, one who never did anything fun.  I remember thinking that if she could do that with eight kids, surely I could do something as well.

My scavenger hunts are pretty simple and involve lots of post-it notes all over the house.  I always arrange them on a day when Bob will be home so he can be a part of it as well.  We start out with a card and then give them simple clues that will have them running up and down, all around.  Clues like “When we wash your hair, what do we use?  Go to it to find your clue”.  Under the shampoo will be another clue asking them to go to the place where we wash their clothes, etc.

It occurred to me a couple of weeks ago that I might be a little tied up around Valentine’s Day, considering it’s four days past my due date.  I don’t normally spend much money on their basket, but I thought they might need a little extra this year, having to contend with a new baby and all.  So I bought them each a girly tutu outfit and lots of chocolate.  Because their Mom might need a little extra too and I can pilfer out of their basket without guilt.
